Serenity Cox and her husband started posting content on Pornhub in 2021. She frequently ranks within the Top 5 Most Popular Amateur Models and has cultivated a special relationship with her fans. She is the hotwife taking the industry by storm, filming with leading studios. With over 544 million videos views and 394K subscribers, she knows a thing or two about how to succeed on the platform. How and when did you and your husband first get started in porn?
My husband and I started filming and documenting our sexual adventures when we decided to start a new journey together exploring the hotwife dynamic. The footage was initially for our own enjoyment but then we began sharing our footage on Fetlife, and then Pornhub to reach a broader audience as we loved the added excitement and feedback from viewers. It was only after the views and subscribers started to rack up that we realized how incredibly popular the hotwife genre was and still is.
You are currently the 4th Most Popular Amateur Model on Pornhub and have accumulated over 544M views. Last time we talked, you told us you did not know what contributed most to your success. Has that changed or are you still the Girl Next Door people love to fantasize about?
I still find it all very surprising, but my best theory is that people enjoy the authenticity of my content. My husband and I started this journey as kinky fun, and it snowballed from there. As I mentioned, when we uploaded our first videos our goal was not to make money (in fact we had no idea how lucrative the amateur industry could be) or to become “famous,” but to share our fun sexy adventures with others. Before I knew it the channel had a million views, 10 million views, 100 million views… and it just kept going. Suddenly I was winning Pornhub Awards, nominated for an AVN Award, filming for Brazzers, and most recently signing an exclusive contract with Vixen to star in scenes alongside their biggest stars. It really is surreal.
Even with this newfound success and the incredible fun I have filming professional scenes, my passion still lies in filming my real amateur adventures alongside my husband and sharing them with the world. So, if I had to pinpoint it, again I would say it is the authenticity which makes me relatable and easy for viewers to see themselves in my scenes.
Let's talk about story lines. Do you start with an idea in mind, or do you improvise as you film?
For the most part I have very few storylines in my content, besides some fun videos that were filmed specifically for contests. I try to capture my true lifestyle and the sex I would be having with or without the cameras. Obviously, I take a little more time setting up, ensuring the area is well lit, choosing the perfect lingerie for my mood etc., but once we start filming, that is true uncensored, unscripted fun.
One thing you will notice is that I love changing up the locations to keep my content fresh, from sex on a boat to a private jet, I am always on the hunt for new exciting locations.
Variety is the spice of life! When you are preparing to capture this content, how do you set up your lights and cameras?
I find proper lighting to be a huge factor in elevating your content. We are far from experts when it comes to lighting, so you will notice we film most of our scenes during the day. I personally love the way the natural light illuminates a room. For darker days and the occasional night shoot, we have a small lighting rig (which you can buy cheaply online). If you are going this route, I would advise at least watching some YouTube tutorials as you can quickly learn the basics and cover things like bouncing light and 2-point lighting setups.
Can you walk us through your editing process? While filming, do you stop to verify the angles are good or do you take care of that in the post-production phase?
Luckily with the type of videos I like to create (threesomes, orgies and voyeurism type scenarios), there is usually an extra pair of hands to film so stopping and checking angles is not usually an issue. But since I typically keep my male counterparts' faces out of the shot (to make it easier for the viewer to imagine themselves in the scene) I do crop and tighten up some of the shots in post-production to keep anonymity.
How many different versions do you make of the same content and what is your strategy to disseminate it?
For the most part, there are two versions of all my videos, one full length version that goes on my OnlyFans channel, then a shorter 10-15 min version I distribute to the tube sites, like Pornhub. I post the shorter version a month or so after the full-length version is uploaded to my OnlyFans.
Even though my Pornhub videos are shorter I feel it is important to include a beginning, middle and an end to the scene because this is still a showpiece to bring people over to my premium channels. Also, maybe it is the exhibitionist in me but regardless of the money I still want people to watch and enjoy my free to view content.
In addition to the two versions, I make short clips of all my videos to share on my socials and drive people to my latest releases.
Walk us through your uploading process on Pornhub. How do you title your videos and use metadata to help new fans discover your content?
I have found that a descriptive title is the key to having a successful video. You can create the hottest video of all time, but if people can’t search for it then you will never reach your potential audience. So, I use the title as an opportunity to explain what happens in the video in the hottest way possible.
When it comes to keywords and categories, I always maximize the amount I can add. However, it is important to only use words relevant to that video. It is easy to look at Pornhub Insights and load yours full of highly searched keywords, but when people watch your content and the description does not match, they can down-vote the video and are less likely to watch your content in the future.
Thumbnails are also key! What is important to convey when selecting a thumbnail?
Picking a thumbnail is always fun and challenging at the same time. I try to sum up the whole video in a single image, as well as trying to capture a euphoric moment. I typically choose a few thumbnails, and then take a step back and think, “which one would I click?”
In addition to that, it is important to match the image to the title as much as possible. For example, if the title says “spitroast” then I will try to find an image to match. If someone searches for the keyword “spitroast,” bringing up a page full of videos and your thumbnail is the only one visualizing the act, they are more likely to select yours.
Let’s switch gears and talk about social media. How does it play a role in promoting your videos?
Social plays a big role in the promotion of my content. X and Reddit for my not safe for work (NSFW) promotion, and Instagram for my more SFW posts. Social is a nice way to let your followers know you have new content out, enticing votes for a contest/award, or even just a gentle reminder that you are still there and to check out your older content.
I have not needed to adapt too much. Instagram has always made it difficult to promote adult content. I lost my first account early on and that felt devastating at the time, but since then I have been extra cautious with what I post there. X and Reddit have always been accommodating for adult content, and it was refreshing to see X doubling down on that recently with an official statement.
Speaking of voting for contests, you have placed in the top 3 in more than 10 Viewers’ Choice Contests. Tell us your secret!
The main reason I like to enter the contests is not necessarily the winning but the way the contest is structured. Because users can vote every 24 hours it is not a matter of announcing that you are in the contest once. Instead, you need to keep putting out daily reminders. Something I should be doing anyway, but it is that gentle push I need to promote my Pornhub channel in a fun way for the whole month.
If anyone is looking for advice on the contests, mine would be don’t give up. Participants often promote their entry hard right out of the gate, but it really is a marathon, not a sprint. If you keep promoting all month and do not get discouraged, you will see many participants slow down their efforts halfway through the month and that is when your persistence can pay off.
One final question for you. We notice you engage with fans in the comments of your videos. Got any favorites?
I love to chat with my fans, and what many people find surprising is how positive and supportive most comments are.
As for a favorite, that is difficult since I have had so many great comments. However, this one recently stood out because they seem to really understand the type of content I am trying to create, and they have clearly been following me from the beginning:
